Welcome to HVAC Minimall, we have some great tutorials for the doityourselfer(DIYS) and new A/C technicians. If you want know how an air conditioner or furnace work electrically or mechanically, you can learn that here. Do you really need to know, how an air conditioner works electrically to repair your own a/c unit if your thermostat, transformer, evaporator motor or condenser motor go out? The answer to that question is no you don't, need to know this information to repair those objects, but the repair of your a/c unit will go much quicker with the knowledge you can get here under your belt. Checkout our sitemap tab to see everything that HVAC Minimall has to offer you for a/c repair and troubleshooting tips, air quaility tips, energy saving tips, furnace repair tips and tutorials
The best advice that I can give you is the easiest advice for you to follow. Change your A/C unit filters monthly. Clogged or very dirty filters block your A/C units normal air flow and reduce your A/C system's efficiency significantly. Clean filters can lower your air conditioner's energy consumption by up to 50%,compared to a clogged filter according to the US Department of Energy. By changing your A/C filter once every month you will improve your A/C units efficiency and improve your indoor air quality plus reduce your electric bill My second best piece of advice for saving you money is not as easy to preform as the first piece of advice I gave you here. A condenser coil can get heavily front loaded with dirt or lint and restrict airflow through the coils, thus reducing heat transfer into the air on a hot summer day. Cleaning a old condenser coil can save money by making your system more efficient. If your indoor filter gets so dirty that the air can not flow through it then, air may go around the filter. If air is getting around the filter, so is dirt. Cleaning an dirty evaporator coil will make the unit more efficient too. You can learn the basics of cleaning your own coils on this site. |
